Billie Eilish says she lost 100,000 followers on Instagram after posting a photo of herself in a corset. It was “just because of the boobs,” the singer said in a new interview with Elle.
Billie Eilish says she lost 100,000 followers on Instagram because ‘people are afraid of big boobs’
On July 11, the Grammy-winning artist posted a series of selfies in which she appeared in a tomato-print Miaou corset with a lacy bra peeking out. People left comments saying Eilish was being “disingenuous” and claimed that “the industry really changed her,” according to Elle.
Eilish has moved away from the baggy clothing styles that used to be her fashion choice. Her June 2021 Vogue cover marked the first time Eilish shared photos of herself in a corset on Instagram.
“People hold on to these memories and have an attachment.
But it’s very dehumanizing,” she said.
The singer has spoken out in the past about her body image issues. As Insider’s Callie Ahlgrim previously reported, Eilish encouraged people to normalize “real bodies” after she was photographed wearing tighter clothes in 2020.
In a 2019 Calvin Klein ad, Eilish said her signature baggy clothing was, in part, a strategy to avoid being judged.
“No one can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath,” she said.
Despite the loss of 100,000 followers in a single post, Eilish’s Instagram still subscribes to more than 91,900,000 people.
