Bill Gates‘ resignation from Microsoft’s board in 2020 came after the board of directors hired a law firm to investigate a romantic relationship he had with a female Microsoft employee
Citing “people familiar with the matter,” The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that a Microsoft engineer had “alleged in a letter that she had a years-long sexual relationship with Mr.
Gates.”
“During the investigation, some board members decided it was no longer appropriate for Mr. Gates to serve as a director of the software company he founded and led for decades.”
“Microsoft received an allegation in the second half of 2019 that Bill Gates attempted to initiate an intimate relationship with a female employee of the company in 2000.”
Throughout the investigations, Microsoft, provided strong support for the person who made the allegation.
In a statement in the Wall Street Journal, a Gate spokesman said: “There was an affair almost 20 years ago that ended amicably.
Bill’s decision to leave the board was in no way related to this matter. In fact, he had an interest in devoting more time to his philanthropy for several years.”
