Introduction to Barbet’s mission

In a world where social interactions often revolve around alcoholic beverages, Barbet emerges as a refreshing alternative. Founded by sisters Katie Fielding and Andrea Grand, this innovative brand is not just about sparkling drinks; it’s about fostering inclusivity and redefining social norms.

The inception of Barbet traces back to March 2020, a period marked by global uncertainty and personal challenges for Katie, who faced health issues that led her to eliminate alcohol from her life. This pivotal moment sparked the idea of creating a beverage that would allow her to engage socially without feeling excluded.

Crafting unique flavors

Barbet’s offerings are anything but ordinary. Each drink is crafted with three thoughtfully paired ingredients, creating a balance between nostalgic and contemporary flavors. From the refreshing cucumber-pineapple-lavender blend to the bold jalapeño-infused varieties, every sip is designed to be an adventure.

“We aimed for full-flavor beverages that stand out in a competitive market,” Grand emphasizes. The sensory experience extends beyond taste; the vibrant packaging, inspired by the alcohol industry, features bold stripes and contrasting colors, making it a visual delight that invites conversation.

Overcoming challenges in the beverage industry

Since its official launch in December 2021, Barbet has seen remarkable growth, but the journey has not been without its hurdles. The sisters faced significant challenges, including scaling production and navigating supply chain disruptions during the pandemic.

“Getting on the shelf is one thing, but getting off the shelf is another,” Grand notes, highlighting the competitive nature of the grocery space. Despite these obstacles, Barbet has made a significant impact, establishing partnerships with restaurants and local grocers, and recently joining Sobeys’ local program, which expanded their reach to 78 locations in Ontario.

Community and inclusivity at the heart of Barbet

At the core of Barbet’s philosophy is a commitment to community and inclusivity. The brand donates three cents per can to grassroots charities, supporting various causes, including dog rescue and female empowerment. “From day one, we’ve involved our community in decision-making, whether it’s flavor profiles or tastings,” Grand shares. This approach not only creates a product that resonates with consumers but also aligns with the values of a generation that prioritizes social responsibility.

Looking to the future

The future looks bright for Barbet as they continue to innovate and expand their product line. The recent launch of their fourth flavor, Deep Dive, marks a significant milestone for the brand. “It’s been three years since we introduced a new product, and the response has been amazing,” Grand expresses. With plans to broaden their national presence, Barbet aims to bring its inclusive beverages to more provinces and beyond. For those eager to try Barbet, their products are available online and at select retailers across Canada, making it easier than ever to join the movement of inclusive social drinking.
