A six-month-old baby is in critical condition at Driscoll Children’s Hospital after being attacked by a dog late last night, July 4.
The dog is said to be a Pitbull mix and is now in quarantine at Animal Care Services. The baby had severe head injuries and required surgery.
It happened shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday night at a home on Crestview Drive near Airline Road.
The child of a visiting family member was attacked by the host’s dog.
ACS was called to assist and impounded the dog. It is currently being held to make sure it is not rabid.
“Usually 10 days from the day of the bite, and that way the animal is quarantined because 10 days is the minimum time for rabies to develop,” said Joel Skidmore of ACS.
