Aunt says nephew was attacked at school because he’s gay
Chad Sanford is out of the hospital, but his aunt Raquel Showers said, the teen has still been dealing with a headache after being attacked at Deerfield Beach Middle School on May 21.
Showers posted a video of the attack on her Facebook page saying Chad was attacked because he is gay.
He said a group from the eighth-grade class followed Chad at the sixth-grade celebration. One of them grabbed Chad in the legs and threw him face down on the ground.
The video shows a bunch of teenagers screaming, while the boys spit on and kicked Chad.
By the time he got to the emergency room, Chad had a knot on his head from all the violence.
Showers told Fox televisions that one of those who attacked her nephew warned Chad not to show up at school that day, threatening to “beat your gay ass.”
She continued, and accused the school security guard who instead of defending turned his back on her “like the one who doesn’t see what’s going on.”
Broward County Public Schools released the following statement on the incident: “Student safety is our top priority.
The school administration understands this incident seriously and is working with law enforcement in their investigation.”
“Each of the students involved will also face appropriate debt-discipline peers in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.”
Showers said one of the boys struck again two days after Chad’s attack, targeted another gay boy after school and stole his Airpods.
He also says he has filed charges but has yet to get anywhere.
