At the Oscars, during the ceremony, Tyler Perry, known for his most recent performance in “A Crazy Funeral”, The American comedian, filmmaker, writer and composer, received a standing ovation after declaring that he rejects hatred towards anyone.

“My mother taught me to reject hate.”

During his acceptance speech, the 51-year-old actor shared a story that really touched.

He recalled an occasion when a homeless woman approached him to ask for shoes.

The actor brought the woman into the studio and they stood in the center of the room.

As soon as the woman had some shoes, she said, “Thank you, Jesus. My feet no longer touch the floor.”

The woman turned back to him thinking that he might hate her for asking for a pair of shoes.

“How could I hate you if you used to be you?”. She revealed that her mother grew up in the Jim Crow South. He recalled one day when he came home and his mother was worried about a bomb threat.

“I refuse to hate anyone for being Mexican or black or white or LGBTQ. I wish we would reject hate, my mother taught me to reject hate.”

Tyler then made an appeal to everyone for those in the middle

“So anyone who wants to meet me in the middle to reject hate, to reject blanket judgment and to help pick someone’s feet up off the ground, this is for you too.”
