It’s been 10 years since they ended their marriage, but it’s only now that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver can say they are officially single again.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver officially get divorced
The actor, 74, and the journalist, 66, have finally signed their divorce, according to TMZ and several U.S. media.
The delay in the process has been due to the complex settlement agreement of properties belonging to the couple and, although the specific details of the agreement are confidential, the digital media reports that Schwarzenegger and Shriver will divide the approximately 400 million dollars they own (about 355 million euros), in half.
The couple, who married in April 1986, lacked a prenuptial agreement and over the 25 years they were married, they had four children: Katherine, Christina, Patrick and Christopher.
It was in May 2011, months after Schwarzenegger stepped down as governor of California after eight years in office, when they announced their mutually agreed separation and their intention to continue raising their youngest child together.
However, the truth is that the story of one of Hollywood’s model couples was blown apart when he admitted having a child out of wedlock with Mildred Baena, who had been the family’s housekeeper since 1991.
That child, named Joseph Baena and born just a week after the couple’s fourth child, Christopher, is now 24 years old and maintains a good relationship with his father, who follows in his footsteps in the world of bodybuilding and film.
“It’s a very difficult situation for him. It’s a very difficult situation for my children,” said the actor in an interview in 2015, in reference to such paternity. “It was hard for all of us. But it’s happened and now we have to figure it out, right?” he added.
Since their separation, both the interpreter and the journalist have dated other people, but they have maintained a cordial relationship and have been seen together with their children, including Joseph.
