An Italian artist, Salvatore Garau, has proved once again that art is in the eye of the beholder and has managed to sell an invisible sculpture called “Lo Sono”.
An Italian artist sells an invisible sculpture for more than $18,000
When we say that the sculpture is invisible, we do not mean that it exists, but that it cannot be seen with the naked eye. And what we are trying to explain is that it literally does not technically exist.
There was nothing physical or tangible to hand over to the willing buyer and that person simply enjoys the “idea” of the sculpture.
To be honest, the only thing this buyer is taking away is a certificate of authentication.
The piece is officially named “Lo Sono,” which means “I am” in his native tongue.

“When I decide to ‘expose’ an immaterial sculpture in a certain space, that space will concentrate a certain amount and density of thoughts in a precise point, creating a sculpture that, from my title, will only take the most varied forms.
all of us, don’t we give form to a God we have never seen? “said the artist.
It is for this idea that the artist requires that the sculpture is exposed in a square environment of 1.5 x 1.5 meters in a private space that is free of obstacles and where there is lighting.
The 67-year-old artist explained that the work should be thought of as existing within a void.
“The void is nothing more than a space filled with energy, and even if we empty it and there is nothing left, that ‘nothing’ has weight. Therefore, it has energy that condenses and transforms into particles, i.e., us,” he said.
People expected the “Lo Sono” sculpture to sell for between $6,000 and $9,000 before the sale, however, the great anticipation caused it to sell for more than double that.
Garau believes he has started a “new, small, authentic revolution” with his artistic vision and will sell other unpublished works.
