The young woman had stopped for a break from rafting and was bathing in a river with a friend when the crocodile appeared and attacked her. The guides and her companions on the route rushed to her aid and managed to get the crocodile to let her go, although many feared for the girl’s life, as, according to witnesses, there was “blood everywhere”.

The victim was airlifted to hospital in the capital, Lusaka, to undergo life-saving surgery to save her life and her leg which they thought would be shattered.
According to one of the witnesses at the scene, the young woman “is lucky to be alive” because the situation was “complete chaos.” “There were people jumping up to hit the crocodile, others were just screaming. Finally, the crocodile gave up and they took her back to the boat, but she was pretty bad.”
The backpacker was rafting with guides from a local company and was resting among the gorge rapids below the iconic Victoria Falls. “It’s very rare to find crocodiles where they were. The big ones are usually above the falls,” said one of the members of the girl’s rafting group.
