Rediscovering the past

As the Sundance Film Festival approaches, Alison Brie is not just preparing for her new thriller Together, but also taking a nostalgic journey back to her roots in the beloved series Community. The 42-year-old actress recently shared her experience of rewatching classic episodes of the show, particularly those featuring her character, Annie Edison.

In a conversation with People, she expressed how revisiting these moments was both enjoyable and enlightening, especially as she gears up for the much-anticipated Community movie adaptation.

Brie’s connection to Community runs deep, and her recent discussions with series creator Dan Harmon have reignited excitement among fans.

“I wanted to rewatch some classic Annie episodes, so I did, and they were great,” she said, highlighting the importance of reflecting on her past work as she steps into this new chapter.

Community movie updates

The buzz around a Community movie has been building since August 2022 when Brie first hinted at ongoing discussions.

“There’s been movement,” she stated, indicating that the wheels are indeed turning for this long-awaited project. Fast forward to July 2024, and co-star Joel McHale confirmed that while filming hasn’t started yet, significant progress has been made. “We have the money, and that’s a huge step,” he noted, emphasizing the enthusiasm surrounding the project.

Ken Jeong, who will reprise his role as the quirky Spanish teacher Ben Chang, also shared his excitement after reading the script. “It just brought me right back,” he said, hinting at the emotional depth of the story crafted by Harmon and former writer Andrew Guest.

The anticipation is palpable as fans await the reunion of the beloved cast on set.

Balancing work and personal life

While Brie is excited about returning to Greendale Community College, she is also busy promoting her new film Together, which she co-stars in with her husband, Dave Franco.

The couple has developed a unique approach to balancing their professional and personal lives. “We allow it to be all-encompassing, and then when we get home, we can chill out,” Brie explained, showcasing their ability to blend work and home life seamlessly.

However, she humorously added that during production, they often “lay in bed like vampires and sleep,” highlighting the challenges of maintaining energy while working on intense projects. As Together screens at the Sundance Film Festival from January 26 to February 1, fans are eager to see how Brie’s experiences and reflections will influence her performance in this new role.
