A woman claims a department store worker refused to serve her because she is transgender described how the woman pointed at her and told her she should speak to someone else.
A woman has been rejected by a Nordstrom’s worker for being transgender
On Tiktok, a user named Licca said she went to Nordstrom, a U.S. department store, but was turned away by an employee who told her that no one would help her when she tried to exchange an item.
She said, “As a transgender woman of color, I empower myself before I go out because I know I’m going to face discrimination and that’s exactly what I did before I walked into Nordstrom.”
She went on to describe how the woman singled her out and told her she should speak to someone else, even though no one else gave in the department, adding that the worker in question helped a wealthy white woman.
“Her behavior toward me was so rude that she made it clear she wanted nothing to do with me,” she said.
“She treated me with such disrespect.”
Licca added that she contacted the store and they emailed her an apology.
They said they might move the woman in question to another department, but would not confirm that.
In response, a Nordstrom spokesperson told TikTok, “We are very sorry to hear that this was your experience. The behavior described is unacceptable and we do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.”
In a follow-up video, Licca responded to the apology and said it was “just words” and called it “Inappropriate.”
Nordstorm’s apology read, [Redacted] alerted me to your recent experience in our store.
Please know that I take this very seriously and sincerely apologize. I thank you for bringing this to our attention as it has made me aware of an opportunity I have with [redacted] and allowed me to follow up with her and the department manager.”
Licca received messages of support from people who viewed her TikTok videos.
One user commented, “, why all these marks? While another said, “I would never shop at this place again.” And a third added: “They need to be vigilant or they could lose a lot of customers.”
