A Texas man helped apprehend a suspected killer during a robbery after surviving a similar incident months ago. The man ended up crashing into a car wash before fleeing on foot.
A Texas man chased down a carjacker who allegedly dragged a woman to her death with a baseball bat
Lewis Matos was sitting at his desk on May 26 when a car crashed into his building, knocking him out of his chair and pushing debris over him. Two people, Juan Mendez and Jaritza Chavarria, got out of the car and attempted to shoot Matos as his desk pinned him to the ground.
Months later, he was in the same area as Uvalde on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. when he saw a man trying to force a woman, Jessica Garza, out of her car, ABC 13 reported.
“I jumped in my car, I didn’t even think,” Matos said.
“All I was thinking was ‘she’s not going to get away.'”
Marcus Wayne Brock, identified by police, took off with the vehicle while dragging Garza along the ground for four or five blocks when his seat belt trapped her against the car.
Matos followed him for a while, but was unable to stop the incident before Garza died.
“I was mortified,” Matos said. “When I picked up the sign that was on top of his car and saw what he did to her, I was enraged.”
Brock ended up crashing into a car wash before fleeing on foot.
Matos continued to pursue Brock until he found him at Ralston Liquors and held him there until police arrived. Police believe Brock, 55, had robbed an auto parts store before stealing Garza’s car in an attempt to make a quick getaway, KHOU reported .
Court records indicate that Brock is responsible for crimes dating back to 1985, with charges ranging from drug possession to robbery.
Matos explained that he was sick of “seeing everyone always running away.”
I sure do despise robbers, carjackers and killers….and career criminals.
