A teenager who drinks 12 cans of Red Bull a day was admitted to hospital after suffering heart cramps
Mascha K., a self-confessed Red Bull addict from Zurich, Switzerland, was admitted to hospital after collapsing at her vocational school with heart cramps on Wednesday.
After the 17-year-old, who works as an apprentice in the healthcare sector, collapsed, a friend called a cab, which took her to the emergency room of the Cantonal Hospital Winterthur.
Mascha posted a short clip of her on TikTok lying in her hospital bed along with some pictures of Red Bull cans with the caption, “Don’t enjoy it too much.”
News site Blick reports that the teenager explained that after telling the doctor that she usually drinks up to two dozen cans of the energy drink a day, doctors again asked her, “Why do you think you passed out?”
She was then told that her addiction to Red Bull had landed her in the hospital and that, if she didn’t quit, she was likely to be back soon.
The teenager says she has since reduced her intake to one or two cans of the energy drink, but says not drinking it has given her a “comedown”.
She said, “You only realize you’re drinking too much when it’s too late.”
In June, a father who suffered a heart attack after drinking 12 cans of energy drinks a day for a year warned against excessive consumption of the products.
Lee Kamen collapsed of a heart attack after ingesting eight to 12 cans a day.
