A mother and her 5 children were killed in Arizona when an 18-wheeler rear-ended their vehicle
The Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal crash that killed a mother and her five children. DPS officials say the accident involving three vehicles occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-10.
“A tractor-trailer was eastbound in the #2 lane when, for an unknown reason, it rear-ended a Nissan Altima with five people on board.
“The force of the impact split the Nissan passenger vehicle in half,” said Bart Graves of the DPS. Bart Graves says the tractor-trailer continued eastbound before hitting a pickup truck.
Mother and 5 children killed
On July 4, the six victims were identified as Natisha Moffett, Jo’syia Moffett, 17, Giovanni Thomas-Blakney, 16, Santari Witherspoon Jr, 16, Makayla Thomas-Blakney, 5, Malik Thomas-Blakney Jr, 8.
Moffett was taking his children to California to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend when they were killed. Kwame Delbridge, her brother and uncle to her children, said the entire family is traumatized by what happened.
“We’re hurting so much right now. We really don’t even know what to do now,” he said. Delbridge was also supposed to make the trip, but couldn’t at the last minute.
FaceTime was the last time he saw his family members as they wished him a happy birthday. Less than three hours later, the accident happened.
“I could see their faces … my nephew was the one who called me, the oldest. They were all smiling, wishing me a happy birthday. They actually wanted me to go with them to California, but I couldn’t. I’m going to remember that conversation forever,” he said.
