The woman, who lives in Golden, British Columbia, Hamilton told CBC that her dog’s barking woke her up.

“The next thing was a big explosion and debris all over my face,” Hamilton told CBC. “I jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. I didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911.”

Hamilton said that, dazed, she “threw back one of the two pillows she had been sleeping on and between them was the meteorite.” Other photos in the CBC report show Hamilton’s ceiling with a hole punched in it.

According to the report, Hamilton was unsure if there were rock explosions in the mountains near her, but authorities confirmed that there were none that night.

Hamilton then turned the rock over to a team of specialists from Western University in London, Ontario, who were able to confirm that it was indeed a meteorite. A similar incident occurred last year in Indonesia, when a meteorite crashed into a villager’s roof.

According to the report, Hamilton was initially silent after the incident. He told the CBC that he plans to keep the galactic gift after investigators finish analyzing it, if possible.
