A man mistakenly kills a nine-year-old girl while trying to shoot a robber
The perpetrator, whose identity is Tony Earls, 41, was assaulted by another man while withdrawing money from an ATM. After what happened, he pulled out a firearm and, in the midst of the confusion, shot at a black van, the same one in which he believed the robber had ridden in order to flee as quickly as possible.
The little girl was hit in the head with a bullet
The misfortune of such dangerous events fell on a nine-year-old girl. The truck, which happened to be passing by the scene of the incident, was not carrying the robber, but a family of five members.
The bullet hit little Arlene, who was hit in the head, as reported in El Debate.
The minor was immediately helped by the emergency services and taken to a hospital, but nothing could be done to save her life. She died the following day.
The father alerted them to get down, but the girl did not listen to him
In statements to some media, the minor’s father, Armando Alvarez, confessed that after hearing the gunshots he alerted his family to get down, but the little girl, who was wearing a helmet and riding in the back of the vehicle, could hear him: “She didn’t hear me,” he said.
Tony Earls is charged with one count of grievous bodily injury with a firearm and is being held in jail on $30,000 bail. Although these charges occurred before the death of the minor, his sentence could be aggravated.
