A man follows a woman home in San Jose and rapes her
San Jose police have arrested a suspect who followed a woman home and raped her inside her apartment.
On May 8, around 2:45 a.m., San Jose police officers responded to the 300 block of South First Street in connection with a report of sexual assault.
It involved a suspect who had followed a woman to molest her.
A subsequent police investigation determined that the woman was outside her building when she was approached by the man, who had been walking.
Officers learned that the suspect had followed the victim into her apartment building to physically and sexually assault her.
Detectives identified the suspect as Cristobal Fuentes-Melara, 20.
Fuentes-Melara was located within hours of being identified and taken into custody without incident. After being charged Wednesday with felony rape, sexual assault and kidnapping, the 20-year-old was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on charges of rape, aggravated kidnapping and other sexual assault-related charges.
The 20-year-old was held on $500,000 bond.
Although the victim is Asian, authorities say they do not currently believe this assault was racially motivated.
