Masten Milimo Wanjala, 20, was due to appear in court yesterday charged with multiple counts of murder.
However, officials realized Wanjala had escaped from Nairobi prison after he failed to take roll call in the morning, reports the BBC .
Authorities have launched a manhunt to find the fugitive and have also arrested three police officers who were on duty at the time he escaped from Jogoo Road police station.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered a reward of £1,316 (200,000 shillings) to anyone who can help officers locate Wanjala.
The 20-year-old was arrested in July after police tracked him down following the discovery of two abandoned bodies in Kabete, on the outskirts of Nairobi.
He confessed to committing ten murders over five years and helping police recover the bodies.
Wanjala was tracked down after two bodies, identified as Junior Mutuku Musyoka, 12, and Charles Opindo Bala, 13, were found in Kabete.
He has been linked to several other disappearances in recent months, although police say it is not yet clear what his motive was.
Police are trying to establish whether Wanjala had accomplices or was working alone.
The suspect led detectives to the scene of several of the murders in July, and officers took photos and videos as evidence.
Many of the locations were dense bushes near cornfields, but Wanjala also dumped his victims’ bodies in open sewer pipes, Capital News reported.
