A gay waiter was humiliated and a Maine-based TikTok star raised more than $10,000 for the LGBTQ+ community in honor of the gay waiter who was discriminated against by the people he served at a restaurant.
A gay waiter was humiliated and stiffed by “Christian” customers
The waiter, who has chosen to remain anonymous, received a religious pamphlet in lieu of a tip from two different customers on the same day.
When the incident reached TikToker Meredith Steele, whose friend works with the waiter, Steele appealed to her nearly 500,000 followers for Venmo money to give the waiter the tip he truly deserved
“As a general rule of life, I don’t try to make videos if I’m mad,” she said in the June 7 video, “but if you can’t tell by my chest, I’m fuming.”
She went on to explain that she has worked in restaurants for fifteen years and couldn’t believe what had happened.
“I don’t care who your God is,” she said. “If you act like that you’re a moron and he can justify it any way you see fit, but it’s not in his book.” He then asked his followers to “stuff the shit out of my Venmo so he could fill his apron with money.”

Donations poured in, with some people giving just pennies and others giving larger sums.
Steele posted a video on TikTok showing his donation receipt set up for Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”
EqualityMaine’s development director, Christopher O’Connor, told local media outlet The Times Record that the money will be used to send ten LGBTQ youth to the organization’s New Leaders Camp this summer.
Steele also spoke to the media outlet and stated, “Regardless of your personal opinion, someone’s sexual orientation has absolutely nothing to do with how they do their job. It’s never the time or place to create a comment like that.
It fills me with hatred.”
Steele posted an emotional video on TikTok after handing the money to the waiter.
