A female safari park worker died instantly after being attacked by a tiger
The young woman, who has not been publicly named, was among the cleaning staff and was performing maintenance work at a Chilean safari park in Rancagua.
She was entering an enclosure where animals are kept when they are not roaming freely in the park when she was attacked, reports the Daily Star.
She had not realized that the cage door was open and immediately the tiger jumped on her. The animal bit her neck, causing her to die almost instantly.
Williams Espinoza of the Rancagua police said, “She did not realize that the animal’s cage door was open and was immediately attacked by this tiger, causing her death on the spot.”
The safari park was closed while police attended the scene and investigated her death. Jorge Mena, from the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, said they will investigate if there is possible third party culpability behind the tragic incident.
The condition of the tiger is unknown.
It comes after a Siberian tiger killed a zookeeper after the electric fence was turned off. The experienced worker died after the big cat scaled a 12-foot fence when it was turned off for repairs.
