A 10-year-old girl said she survived her family’s massacre by playing dead when a gunman lined them up and shot them dead, authorities said.
A 10-year-old girl played dead when a man lined up her family and killed them
The little girl watched as her mother, father and 6-year-old sister were shot to death and then waited for the assailant to leave so she could call her grandmother.
The heartbreaking incident occurred Wednesday in Houston. The little girl was able to contact her grandmother through the FaceTime video app.
The girl commented to her grandmother, “Someone came into the house and shot me, mom, dad, my sister and they died,” Angela Ervin said.
The family said the girl told them that a man in a mask knocked on their door and grabbed her 1-year-old brother from his father’s arms.
He threw him onto the couch and then began shooting at them. The little girl suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, but pretended she had been killed.
After the man left, the girl said she locked the door, grabbed her surviving brother and called her grandmother.
Police are searching for a suspect described only as a black man in his 20s.
Authorities believe the man knew the victims and said there was no evidence the incident was a robbery. “It was probably not a home invasion, there was no damage.”
“There was possibly a known disturbance of some kind,” said Deputy Chief Patricia Cantu.
But at this point, we don’t have all the details, and at this point, we’re just looking for a suspect to see what happened,” she added.
An 8-year-old boy was not with them at the time of the shooting, also the son of the couple, the family said they have no idea who could have done this as they were only a couple of months old moving into the Spring apartment.
