Making the holidays brighter for children

On Saturday, the spirit of giving was palpable as 880 CHED Santas Anonymous celebrated its annual ‘Delivery Day’. This cherished event has become a beacon of hope for many families in Edmonton, ensuring that every child has a gift to unwrap during the holiday season.

Over the past few weeks, the organization has tirelessly gathered toys, books, and monetary donations, all aimed at bringing joy to those in need.

With more than 2,000 Edmontonians stepping up to volunteer, the community’s response has been nothing short of inspiring.

These dedicated individuals worked together to ensure that approximately 20,000 children would receive gifts this year. The sheer number of volunteers highlights the collective effort and compassion that defines this initiative.

A well-oiled machine of generosity

“Turnout this morning has been incredible,” said Angel Benedict, Executive Director of 880 CHED Santas Anonymous.

“We have about 200 porters in the building right now gathering up the bags to bring them out to the nearly 1,100 delivery drivers we’ll see throughout the day.” This impressive logistical operation showcases the organization’s commitment to efficiency and care, ensuring that every gift reaches its destination.

The charity, which began 69 years ago in the basement of 630 by Jerry Forbes, has grown into a vital community resource. Its longevity speaks volumes about the impact it has had on the lives of countless families. Each year, the organization adapts and evolves, but its core mission remains the same: to spread joy and kindness during the holiday season.

Community spirit shines through

The success of the delivery day is a testament to the power of community spirit. Volunteers from all walks of life come together, united by a common goal: to ensure that no child feels forgotten during the holidays.

This year’s event not only highlights the generosity of Edmontonians but also serves as a reminder of the importance of giving back.

As the day unfolds, the excitement builds. Families eagerly await the arrival of their gifts, and the smiles on the children’s faces are priceless. The joy of giving is palpable, and it resonates throughout the community. The impact of 880 CHED Santas Anonymous extends far beyond the gifts themselves; it fosters a sense of belonging and hope for those who may be struggling.
