8-year-old boy found dead after being bullied at school
An Ohio school district in the United States has agreed to pay €2.47 million following a lawsuit filed by the parents of Gabriel Taye, an eight-year-old boy who committed suicide after being bullied.
The family alleges that the school covered up the bullying the student suffered.
Gabriel Taye died when he was only eight years old. His parents blame Carson Elementary School for covering up the bullying their son suffered that led him to take his own life.
“If the school had informed the parents of the situation their son was in at school they would have stopped taking him,” the family explains.
In a settlement agreement with the Ohio school district, the family has accepted compensation for Taye’s death of 2.47 million euros.
“In honor of Gabe, his family is using this settlement to protect current and future CPS students,” explains Al Gerhardstein, the family’s attorney.
Gabe’s parents will work for two years to monitor the schools’ work in implementing this program.
Gabe’s parents accuse Carson Elementary School of covering up the bullying the boy suffered. Two days before his death, Gabriel was attacked in the boys’ bathroom.
On the day he committed suicide, two students stole his water bottle and tried to flush it down the toilet, an incident he reported to a teacher.
Gabe’s parents claim that their son was assaulted six times in third grade and that the parents were only informed on three of those occasions.
