Joan Burke, a 61-year-old Florida woman, has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities found her husband’s body surrounded by a large pool of blood in her home.

It was Ricardo Green, 41, who called 911 when he arrived home from work to find his stepfather, Melvin Weller, 62, lying lifeless on the floor.

When the officers arrived, they saw a shocking scene, with a pool of blood covering more than half of the kitchen, among blood splatter stains also on the walls and furniture of the place.

In addition, they saw several knives in the kitchen sink, which definitely indicated that a crime had just occurred and that the stab wounds and lacerations on the man’s body could have been caused by them.

The autopsy revealed that the victim had received more than 140 stab wounds

There was one other person in the house: Joan Burke, the victim’s 60-year-old wife, whom officers found lying on the bed in her bedroom. She did not utter a word; she remained silent.

According to WPTV, she was immediately transported to JFK Hospital in Florida for an evaluation, while the agents began their investigation to try to clarify what had happened.

In the process, they discovered a garbage bag with a blood-stained nightgown belonging to the woman in the home, while an autopsy of Weller’s body revealed that she had received more than 140 stab wounds, in addition to a skull fracture caused by a severe blow to the head.
