5-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being bitten by a snake
Maisy Lamica, a 5-year-old girl, was bitten by a forest rattlesnake in Berrien County and is currently receiving treatment.
The 5-year-old is battling for her life after the wood snake unfortunately managed to bite her several times.
Cynthia Spell, who is her mother, told WALB that her little girl, Maisy Lamica, was bitten a total of three times on her right leg. “The number of times the snake bit her was enough to sedate an elephant at this point basically,” Spell said.
Little Maisy, who was with her father at the time, had gone to play with the family cat, who was then corralling the snake near a tree.
“Her father looked up and she was hopping around a lot on one foot, and as soon as he saw her hopping around like that, he heard the rattling,” Spell said.
Maisy’s father immediately contacted 911, when and as she appeared, Maisy went into anaphylactic shock and her body was shutting down as she was being taken to the hospital, according to Spell.
“When we got to the hospital and they tried to reassure us that she was going to be fine, we knew that wasn’t the case, because her appearance was not good at all,” he said.
“She was pale, vitals were dropping immediately and very quickly. It’s a very panic-inducing experience for anyone,” Spell said.
The girl’s lungs began to fail when she arrived at South Georgia Medical Center, and her heart rate and blood pressure dropped.
Doctors are working to save the 5-year-old’s leg. Her mother, said the poison appears to have spread to her thigh.
