Natalie Steele, 31, of Broadlands, Bridgend, will appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today over the death of Reid Steele.
Reid was rushed to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, after being discovered injured in Bridgend, South Wales, last Wednesday night.
He died from his injuries the following day.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Davies, senior investigating officer, said, “This is a heartbreaking case for all involved and my thoughts are with Reid’s family, who continue to be supported by specially trained officers.”
“Legal proceedings are now active and, while I appreciate there are concerns in the community, I would urge people to refrain from speculation on social media.
“Our investigation continues and anyone who believes they may have relevant information is urged to get in touch. The family respectfully asks that she be left to grieve at this difficult time.”
South Wales Police previously issued a statement from Reid’s family describing him as a “super happy, beautiful, wonderful and intelligent” child.
Ian Spiller, councillor for Laleston, Bryntirion and Broadlands, told the BBC: “The community is absolutely devastated by the news, we are all in complete shock, especially after the events that happened last week.
“For this to happen in another community, in our community in Bridgend, I am absolutely speechless and our support is for those affected.”
