Brandon was at work with his two sons Louie, six, and Everett, three, in the backyard when they called it a day and closed the door to go home.

When they left, his boys stopped at the water journal with the fountain, as they had often done to drink. However, when Brandon looked back to check on them, he realized that his six-year-old son was missing.

He ran to his youngest son and asked him what had happened.

Everett said his brother had fallen into a hole.

Without thinking, Brandon jumped into the hole and fell free almost to the bottom. Fortunately, he grabbed onto a water pump pipe and was able to catch himself before falling on his son and seriously injuring him.

He was high enough to pull himself out of the water and also low enough to pull his son out of the water and throw him onto his chest.

Recognizing that he was trapped, and that he probably couldn’t hold this position for long, he did the only thing he could think of.

He called his three-year-old son and asked him to act like a big boy and call for help.

Everett did exactly as his father told him and stayed out of the road, but stood by the mailbox. Moments later, Christi’s neighbors and her husband, Mark, saw the three-year-old boy and drove up in their truck to see what he was doing there.

The boy told his neighbors that his father had fallen into a hole, and while Mark flagged down the police, Christi quickly went to help him.

They ended up using a 100-foot long barn rope and pulled Louie out first. Then they were able to lift Brandon and he collapsed from exhaustion from keeping Louie and him out of the water for so long.
