An 11-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy, and is now believed to be the youngest mother to give birth in the UK, according to a report on Sunday.

The child, who was 10 when she became pregnant, gave birth earlier this month when she was more than 30 weeks pregnant, The Sun reported.
“This is the youngest mother I’ve ever heard of,” Dr. Carol Cooper told the media outlet.
“Weight affects a lot of hormones. Because children weigh more, puberty is happening earlier these days, ” she added.
The pregnancy came as a surprise to the girl’s family, who did not know she was pregnant, the media outlet reported.
“It’s been a big shock,” a source who knows the family told the media outlet. She is now surrounded by expert help. The main thing is that she and the baby are doing well.”
Social services and police are now investigating, the media outlet reported.
“There are questions about why people didn’t know. That’s very worrying, ” the source told The Sun.
Britain’s youngest mother was previously Tressa Middleton, who was 12 when she gave birth in 2006.
