Eight pounds is a normal weight for a newborn, but not for a dead one-year-old girl in Texas.

The child appeared to be severely malnourished, had sores on her body, dirt on her skin and circular blisters on her lower back and buttocks.

Her mother, Sage Wright , 22, and her father, Christian Bishop-Torrence , 24, were arrested Friday for the child’s death.

According to the police version of events, the officers reacted on June 11 in connection with the child’s death.

They took her to the hospital in a private vehicle and pronounced her dead. The investigation led detectives to obtain arrest warrants for her parents on Friday.

Wright and Bishop Torrence told police they had noticed the girl had lost weight since January. They obviously did not seek medical help.

(Prison records show the date of the offense as Jan. 15 for both parents). He drove them to the hospital in a friend’s car that was outside.

Bishop-Torrence allegedly found the girl gasping for breath, breathing slowly and shallowly and making noise as she exhaled.

Wright allegedly told investigators he did not have the same relationship with the child as he did with his other two children.

The parents are being held in the Wichita County Jail on Sunday on $500,000, records show. Each faces a charge of injury to a child, elderly or disabled. Apparently claiming indigence, they filed for court-appointed attorneys.
